Possible Refund Opportunity – Requests Due by July 1, 2026

A recent Federal Claims Court ruling may allow taxpayers to recover certain IRS penalties and interest paid between January 20, 2020 and July 10, 2023.

While this creates a potential refund opportunity, it does require action if you want to preserve your claim.

To determine whether you qualify, we would need to review your IRS transcripts to confirm that penalties and interest were paid during that timeframe. If applicable, a Protective Claim for Refund must be filed with the IRS no later than July 10, 2026, using Form 843.

It’s important to note that the U.S. Government has filed an appeal, which means we will not know if you are entitled to a refund until that case is settled which may be many years.

If you’d like us to look into this, please contact our office and we can review your situation. To give us enough time to review and prepare filings, we ask that requests be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than July 1, 2026.

Please note that reviewing transcripts and preparing a claim would be handled as a billable service.
